Physicians' Review Network (PRN) is an Independent Medical Review Organization. We provide external, expert, cost-effective, and unbiased reviews and consultations that facilitate medical service decisions. PRN assists Health Maintenance Organizations, Third Party Administrators, Insurance Companies, Preferred Provider Organizations, Workers' Compensation Administrators, Self-funded Employers, and Government Entities by providing quality medical reviews in a timely manner.

Our review process ensures that physicians are involved in decisions regarding the medical necessity of requested healthcare services. Since we perform medical reviews outside of the client's operations, there is no pressure on PRN to make medical determinations in favor of one party over another. Our physicians are independent and neutral.

CEO & Medical Director

Albert G. Sheff, M.D., President of Physicians’ Review Network, Inc., has been involved in reviews and surveys of health care organizations beginning as a surveyor with JCAHO in 1972. He has combined twenty four years of experience in Utilization Management, Complex program Administration, JCAHO Accreditation, Correctional Administration, Medicare Certification, and Quality Assurance Program Management to develop PRN’s excellent comprehensive review program. Since 1988, Dr. Sheff has been providing review services and administrative consultation to several utilization review companies throughout the United States.

Dr. Sheff graduated from St. Louis University School of Medicine in 1962. He has served as Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Oregon Health Sciences Center, President of the Oregon Psychiatric Association, a surveyor for the JCAHO, and President of the Clinical Staff Association of San Diego County Division of Mental Health. His medical and administrative experience includes urban and rural settings in the public and private sectors. Quality patient care and continuity issues have always been a focus of his concern. As Chief Deputy Warden (Medical Director) for California Medical Facility, Dr. Sheff was responsible for the largest correctional hospital in the United States. In each setting, he was involved in the development of Improving Organizational Performance and Quality Assurance Plans, Medical Staff and Governing Body Bylaws, as well as policies and procedures.

Prior to the incorporation of Physicians’ Review Network, Dr. Sheff served as Medical Director and Physician Advisor for several national utilization review companies and PSRO’s. As a Surveyor for the Accreditation Council for Psychiatric Facilities with the Joint Commission for Accreditation of Hospitals in Chicago, Illinois, he completed one hundred and ten surveys of hospitals nationwide. Physician’s Review Network follows Dr. Sheff’s philosophy that quality patient care necessitates medical decisions that remain in the hands of physicians.
